How to Maintain your Furnace During the Summer Months

high-efficiency-furnace-home

When Utah reaches its scorching heat, your furnace will be the last thing on your mind. The truth is that summer is a great time to have your furnace maintained and looked at. You can do some things with your furnace apart from an inspection by a Utah furnace maintenance specialist.

  1. Check your filters and keep your furnace clean. You want to regularly replace your air filters as the seasons change from winter to summer. It is also a great idea to visually inspect your furnace to ensure it is clean and clear of debris and nothing is blocking its airways.
  2. Install a carbon monoxide detector. This is a general safety recommendation that we make to our customers. A carbon monoxide detector is a great idea to inspect indoor air quality while your furnace runs in winter.
  3. Switch off your pilot light. Older furnaces will have a pilot light running, and although it doesn’t take much fuel or energy, there is still no need for it to run while you are not using it.
  4. Check your furnace for anything that looks suspicious. You must only touch the wiring in your furnace if you are trained. However, anyone can visually inspect things that look out of place, like disconnected or cut wires.
  5. Call a professional. It is recommended throughout the industry to have your furnace and heating units inspected and maintained once a year. If everything checks out, the price should be minimal, but when you factor in the cost of maintenance versus the extensive repair or replacement costs, it makes sense to make a quick call and give yourself peace of mind.

Remember, everyone has different levels of experience in maintaining a home. The above tips are general suggestions that homeowners should take advantage of. However, if you feel uncomfortable or need further assistance, we are happy to help and are just a phone call away at 801-601-1298.
