When the Wasatch mountain snowpack rapidly melts in spring, the groundwater table across the Salt Lake Valley rises significantly. If your home has a basement or a deep crawl space, that groundwater is actively looking for a way to break through your foundation.
Your sump pump is the only mechanical line of defense keeping your basement from turning into a swimming pool. If your pump fails, seizes, or loses power during a heavy spring storm, thousands of dollars in water damage, destroyed drywall, and mold growth can occur within hours.
At Plumbing Utah, we provide critical sump pump diagnostics, repair, and complete system replacements. Dispatching directly out of our Midvale headquarters, our licensed plumbers serve homes across Sandy, Midvale, and West Jordan. We arrive fast, evaluate your groundwater threat level, and provide flat-rate, upfront pricing to ensure your home is fully protected before the next storm hits.
EXCELLENT Based on 501 reviews Posted on Google Robert AlderTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I was looking for a good plumber, & I found an excellent plumber, Heath at Plumbing Utah. Water heater replacement & house pressure valve. He carefully detailed the necessary work required & provided suggestions. Listened to my requests for high quality parts & included them. He diligently completed the work which took a fair number of hours (he didn't short cut anything). A true craftsman! Plus, we have light carpet & he protected it throughout. They aren't going to be your lowest bid, but you get what you pay for; from outward appearances, enduring long lasting quality. If you notice, employees have their photos of who is doing the work. IMO, it shows that they take pride in their work, & they should. Brandon, the owner, probably deserves credit also. This is an easy call for future work. Thank you again Heath!Posted on Google Cat KidderTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Stetson & Heath are the best! They did work in my home. I truly wish I had found Brandon and his team before bringing in other plumbers and even a foundation repair company. It would’ve saved me so much time, money, and stress. Brandon is hands-down the most knowledgeable expert in the leak detection and plumbing repair industry. He identified the issue almost immediately, walked me through the plan to fix it, and had a crew on-site faster than I thought possible. And the cleanup? Incredible. I was honestly nervous about how my yard would look after replacing the main line, but they left it looking just as good, if not better than before they started. Brandon and his crew have absolutely earned my trust and my business for life.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust. A sump pump is an out-of-sight, out-of-mind appliance—until it fails. Because these units sit in a pit of water for years at a time, their mechanical components eventually degrade. You need to call for a professional inspection if you notice any of the following:
We don’t just swap out pumps; we engineer reliable groundwater mitigation systems tailored to your property’s specific risk level.
Unlike franchise waterproofing companies that aggressively push $15,000 interior perimeter drain systems, we focus heavily on the mechanics of your existing plumbing. We provide an honest assessment of your current sump basin, pump capacity, and discharge routing. By diagnosing the exact point of failure, we can often restore your basement’s protection for a fraction of the cost of a full foundation overhaul.
How do I test my sump pump before the spring thaw? You can easily test your pump by slowly pouring a 5-gallon bucket of water directly into the sump pit. Watch the float switch carefully. As the water rises, the float should lift and trigger the motor. The pump should quickly drain the water and shut itself off once the float drops back down. If the water reaches the top of the pit without the pump turning on, you need an immediate repair.
What is the difference between a pedestal and a submersible sump pump? A pedestal pump has the motor mounted high up on a stick above the water pit, making it louder but easier to access. A submersible pump has the motor sealed in a waterproof casing and sits entirely underwater at the bottom of the basin. Submersible pumps are significantly quieter, cool themselves more efficiently in the water, and are generally the preferred standard for modern Utah basements.
Do I need a sump pump if I already have a zero-scaping system? Yes. While zeroing out drastically reduces surface water from irrigation systems around your foundation, it does not stop the natural regional groundwater table from rising beneath your home during heavy spring snowmelt. A sump pump manages the deep hydrostatic pressure pushing up against your basement floor, a force that surface landscaping cannot control.
Do not wait for your basement carpet to squish under your feet. Trust your local Midvale plumbing team to ensure your sump pump is ready for the worst weather Utah can throw at it.
